Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy involves reprogramming old habits, emotions and thoughts that are controlled by the subconscious mind. This can be done whilst the client is in a state of deep relaxation.
Put simply, we can say that the brain believes everything we tell it. Under hypnosis, your subconscious mind receives new, constructive messages that enable change to happen quickly.
You can come to me for help with a topic or area of concern of your own choosing. Reprogramming is only possible in relation to something that you, as the client, wish to change.
When carried out correctly, hypnotherapy is an effective method for breaking habits and patterns, and not only that – you don’t have to go through a gruelling and protracted process to achieve the change you want; on the contrary, it’s quick and a pleasant experience. As one client put it: “It’s like a pep talk, in a relaxed setting, that guides you to where you want to be.”
Hypnotherapy can help you with the following:
Various types of addiction, such as sugar, overeating and alcohol
People pleasing – you’ve lost sight of yourself, you’re tired and drained
Low self-confidence
Procrastination, i.e. putting things off so that you never get started.
Sleep
Stress
Phobias and fears – all kinds, such as fear of germs, fear of the dentist, claustrophobia and so on.
Mobile phone addiction
Hypochondria, i.e. an excessive fear of contracting a serious illness.
Jealousy
Fears that hold you back in your daily life
All kinds of old patterns that hold you back

What is hypnotherapy?
The key to all fundamental change lies in the subconscious mind.
The subconscious mind accounts for 95 per cent and is based on emotions, imagination, past experiences, old habits, thoughts and values that we have acquired over the years.
There are, therefore, many things that govern us of which we are unaware. Our thoughts flow automatically, and we may not know or understand how or why. The conscious mind – that is, willpower, logic and what we rationally know to be good for us – accounts for 5 per cent. It is no wonder that it is difficult to change old thought patterns and old habits through willpower alone.
In hypnotherapy, we communicate with the subconscious mind, and this explains why it is possible to break old patterns and old habits.
What is hypnotherapy not?
Hypnosis is not:
- losing control
- doing things against your will
- ‘zoning out’ or falling asleep
- being manipulated
- being persuaded to do something that is not in line with your own stated desire for change
Forget what you’ve seen on TV and in films about hypnosis, where people lose control. That has nothing to do with hypnotherapy.
Can hypnotherapy be carried out online?
Hypnosis sessions work very well online; we’ll meet via Zoom. The results are just as good as if we were meeting in person.
One major advantage of online sessions is that you don’t have to travel. Many people also appreciate being in the comfort of their own home.
You’ll receive all the information you need, as well as details on how to prepare for the session, by email.
Good to know: You’ll need a good internet connection. During the session, you should sit comfortably and ensure you won’t be disturbed. Place your computer in front of you at eye level so that we can see each other.
This is how hypnotherapy works
- We’ll start by talking about what you want to change and why – this will take about 90 minutes.
- Then we’ll move into the hypnosis phase, where I’ll guide you into a state of calm.
- Once you feel calm, we’ll begin the hypnosis. It’s a relaxing experience for you, during which I’ll use words and visualisations that speak to your subconscious mind – the part that controls our habits and behaviour. (Even if you find it difficult to relax, you can rest assured that I’ve done this many times before and that a positive change will take place.)
- I’ll bring you out of the hypnosis, and we’ll wrap things up calmly and gently.

What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural state of deep relaxation and focused attention. It involves a collaborative process between the hypnotherapist and the client, in which they work with the subconscious mind to bring about positive changes.
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Most people can be hypnotised if they are willing and open to the process. It’s all about cooperation and feeling safe. However, some people may need more time or practice to reach a deep hypnotic state.

What is the difference between a hypnotist and a hypnotherapist?
Good question – they sound similar but serve quite different purposes.
A hypnotist:
- Focuses primarily on inducing hypnosis (an altered state of consciousness).
- Often works in entertainment or gives demonstrations (e.g. stage hypnosis).
- The aim is usually to show that hypnosis works or to create an experience.
A hypnotherapist:
- Works to help people with issues such as stress and anxiety, phobias, giving up smoking, sleep problems and more.
- The aim is change and improved health, not entertainment.
In short:
Hypnotist = induces hypnosis (often for entertainment or demonstration purposes).
Hypnotherapist = uses hypnosis to help people feel better.
